Beyond the Posed Shots: 3 Real Moments Worth Capturing
As photographers, we get to capture SO MANY special moments. Big wedding moments like, seeing the bride for the first time in an intimate “first look” or just as she walks down the aisle, the couple’s first dance, teary-eyed, emotional glimpses from relatives and friends — and moments like, roaring laughter from hilarious best man speeches!
Intimate family session moments from a sweet kiss shared between mother and baby, joyful couples full of love and excitement to share the news of their growing family … and the list goes on.
But, there are some moments, some “in-between” shots to consider that I ALWAYS feel are worth capturing. These three types of shots are often my favorite because they aren’t staged, posed, or typical … they’re just authentically a part of a photography session.
Capture the Mundane
The “not-so-interesting” things during your session can actually end up creating the most beautiful photos! Those photos are the ones you don't plan on going into a session, but when you capture the mundane anyway, they set the scene — simply and beautifully.
Capture the “In-Between”
Like the mundane, the in between shots can change the game in your gallery delivery! Those photos give you the opportunity to tell a story from one moment to another — and usually turn out to be some of the most beautiful photos in an entire gallery!
Capture the Mess
These are the ones that aren't staged perfectly… the ones that are simply what's really happening in that moment. You may set up a pose and it goes nothing like how you envisioned, and that's okay! Capture that messy because that is the client's truth… it's their moment, their story, and you're capturing something authentic to them!
I hope you found some inspiration to capture what’s not “normally captured” and keep these 3 in moments in mind for your next booking!
